New titanium heat exchangers combine performance with real value

A new range of high performance, premium specification titanium heat exchangers, that provide a cost-effective cooling solution for electric and hybrid marine systems.

A new range of titanium heat exchangers, offering a cost-effective cooling solution for electric and hybrid marine systems, is being launched by leading manufacturer E J Bowman.

Suitable for applications ranging from the smallest pleasure craft, to large commercial passenger ferries and workboats, the new range has been designed to offer a highly efficient titanium heat exchanger, that is more commercially attractive than would normally be possible for a product of this specification.

However, in developing the new range, Bowman has not compromised on either the quality or specification of the heat exchangers.

Inside the shell is a tightly packed, extremely strong titanium tube stack, which is designed to provide the largest surface area possible, for maximum heat transfer efficiency.

Titanium is an ideal material for this type of application, as it is virtually impervious to corrosion from aggressive cooling media like sea water.

UK manufactured, using titanium, aluminium and composite materials, these heat exchangers are much lighter than comparable, traditional marine specification units – an important factor for boat builders looking to reduce the weight of the ancillary equipment.

Being a shell and tube design, these heat exchangers are extremely efficient in applications where the flow of the cooling fluid – circulating around the electrical components in the primary circuit – is much lower than the cooling water that flows through the secondary circuit – which is often the case in electric and hybrid marine systems.

Additionally, routine cleaning is much easier and, as they are less likely to be affected by blockages than alternative heat exchangers, such as plate heat type, maintenance requirements are reduced.

With over 70 years’ marine industry experience, Bowman heat exchangers are renowned worldwide for efficient heat transfer and long operating life and are the leading brand for electric and hybrid marine propulsion.
